Water all around the Island I have never been good at understanding science. So much of it seems invisible and it is hard for me to visualize invisible things. I realize how absurd this sounds. But I think, sometimes, does the Bible have to be the opposite of science? I feel like there is a disagreement: is the Bible just a tale and science is real? How strange. Many years ago I was in a play called "Inherit the Wind." I believe the main character eventually realized one does not necessarily negate the other. It was concerning the Scopes Monkey Trial. I played Rachel. The guy who starred in the play said, "Why is everyone so ridiculing of the Bible?" I thought about that because I also felt this disdain for the Bible and I thought I should not dismiss the book with disdain or an arrogant "know better" attitude. SPOILER ALERT- The Widower  D.L. Fisher I am in the middle of this audio book right now.  Jessica Preddy, the narrator, seems to have a somewhat limited range of different character voices and I think she says "goodness sake" like "goodnesses sake," but I enjoy listening to her warm and articulate voice. However, I am having trouble following the plot. When listening to this book, I feel as if I have tuned in to Book 2 in a series without having read Book 1. There are many references to past dealings with various characters; but not a lot of description or introduction to the circumstances of their previous interactions. Am I missing something? This is not to say I don't enjoy the book. I do. I like the main character Carrie (hope she's not the villian); and enjoy the warm narrator voice.  In fact have re-listened to the chapters several times. Finally we know why Russia went into communism and Stalin killed so many thousands of people: it was caused by a woman. Glad we solved that one; though, I will say, we do seem to be the plot device for most disasters of epic proportion. I was trying to listen to an Audible book on Rasputin; but I got to a certain point and it seemed the mystery was solved. The fall of Russia's empire, the Bolshevik revolution and all the carnage and horrible murders done by the KGB, it was because Czarina Alexandra gave unwelcome, no, apparently FORCED her unwelcome advice on her husband, which destroyed everything. So at that point, as much as I would love to listen to a book on Rasputin and give a review to a self-published book, hmmmm, I think I've heard this one before. The person in the relationship who has the least power is ALWAYS the culprit. Isn't that how it works boys? Oy. Even a non-monk, non-psychic, non-mystic WOMAN could have seen that coming. 

Various brands all together On one road, in Schaumburg, Illinois, is a Four Points by Sheraton, a division of Marriott, or something. Then if you drive to the next building, it is a Fairfield by Marriott. Then if you go in the Fairfield and look across the roof of where the pool and gym are, and attached to the Fairfield, is a TownePlace Marriott. What the heck? Three Marriotts all right next to each other. It seems like there is not a lot of competition in the hotel industry. I think that corporations have many unfair advantages over human beings who wish to provide a service and support themselves and their families. Corporations seem welcome to act without a conscience. And we expect them to do whatever they can to destroy competition and maximize their profits. Plus, it was quite hard to figure out how to turn on the mini fridge; or, at least how to make sure it was on. I couldn't figure out how to turn the thing on so I had to take a picture of the mini-fridge in the Fairfield...

 Was nature speaking to me today? I think so. When I was driving to the park with my dog; an opossum walked out in front of the car. It didn't seem to sense any danger from my vehicle. He or she was just taking their sweet time. Anyway, it could not get into its usual field where I had seen it before because the snow was so high. So it just kept walking around the field. I could see that it would soon reach a part of the field where the snow was lower and it could enter. The next thing was an odd tree . Was it one tree or two? Early on, it has seemed to split into two trees; however, in the later years, it was clear the two parts were growing back together. Later in the day I looked out the window onto a tree which blew over in the recent blizzard. There was a cardinal sitting in it. I thought of my dog Tomas. Then a cedar waxwing sat in the tree about 5 feet from the cardinal. Then they flew away. Later that night, I was out walking. All of a sudden, what I thought was a black ...
